About TriNetX

TriNetX is a self-service data platform designed to support clinical and translational research by allowing researchers to query de-identified EHR data from UNC Health and network of over 100 health systems. Users can build patient cohorts and receive patient counts to support study planning. TriNetX also offers analytics tools, and TraCS supports reidentification of TriNetX cohorts for approved projects.

This platform replaces i2b2@UNC as of September 2025.

TriNetX Training

Training is required. It is self-paced and takes about 1 hour. Training includes 3 components:

  1. TriNetX Orientation slide deck
  2. TriNetX 101 Basic Functionality training video
  3. TriNetX Knowledge Check

Register for TriNetX

After successful completion of the training requirements, new users can register for a TriNetX account by submitting a user request form.
