LCCC: Diversity Grant Awards/Diversity Supplement Workshop

The UNC Lineberger Cancer Research and Career Enhancement Core in conjunction with the UNC Lineberger Equity Council is offering a free Zoom workshop on the planning and submission of NCI individual trainee applications, such as the F31, K01 and K08, for underrepresented racial and ethnic minorities (UREM) pre-doctoral, post-doctoral and clinical fellows.

The workshop will also cover the planning and submission of diversity supplements for principal investigators of existing grants awards such as R01, P01 and P50. Alison Lin, PharmD will give an overview of the award mechanisms offered by NCI as well as some tips on preparing a strong application. Her presentation will be followed by a panel, consisting of Lin and UNC investigators who have received one of these awards, to answer your questions.

The goal of the workshop is to increase the number of URM trainees within UNC Lineberger who receive extramural support for their research studies.

N3C: Orientation to the N3C Data Enclave - Part B

This orientation continues the general overview of the National COVID Cohort Collaborative (N3C), discussing goals, organization, and community resources. This session will focus on technical aspects of working with N3C data in the secure Enclave, including OMOP concept sets and N3C-specific tooling such the Concept Set Browser.

Topics include:

  • Introducing commonly used analysis tools, such as Contour and Code Workbooks and corresponding work flows for simple analyses
  • Introducing the Knowledge Store, a mechanism for sharing and using community- developed code and data across projects

Note: Attendance at Part A is required to attend this session.

Semi-Structured Interviewing

This interactive online workshop will focus on semi-structured interviewing, a data collection method used in qualitative research. Topics covered will include basics of semi-structured interviews, development of interview questions and probes, interviewing skills, and considerations for conducting virtual interviews.

Participants will have the opportunity to practice developing interview questions and using interviewing skills.

TraCS Professional Development: Working with the Media

This Professional Development seminar is great for research professionals, graduate students, postdocs and early stage faculty researchers. It covers foundational skills useful for career development in clinical/translational research.

The second module of this seminar is titled Communication Skills and will equip attendees with knowledge of how to best communicate within their research teams and with the public. Each session of the seminar will meet Fridays at 12:00 pm. This session is titled: Working with the media.
