This page lists the training requirements for all users of the CTRC's Specimen Processing and Storage facility.
Proof of the training completion will be required before one can work in the space.
If you have completed the required training in the past year, you can access your training records.
There are two categories of training listed in the table below. Category One is for employees who are taking safety training for the first time. Category Two is annual safety re-training for all employees who have previously completed safety training. Choose the appropriate category and complete the required training modules, as well as medical surveillance requirements.
You must provide your UNC PID number to complete the training.
CATEGORY 1
First Time Training - new to UNC
- Complete the appropriate New Employee Orientation: ehs.unc.edu/training/orientation
All modules at this site should be reviewed and the post-test completed by the employee
- Visit University Occupational Health
(145 North Medical Drive) for an immunization review and TB skin test placement. Call 919.966.9119 for an appointment. This medical surveillance requirement is for all employees who work within the CTRC.

CATEGORY 2
Annual safety training / refresher
- You should complete, at the minimum, the following training sessions and post tests listed which include Bloodborne Pathogens, Tuberculosis and Infection Control, and Joint Commission and Emergency Preparedness Refresher for Clinic Environment.
- Visit University Occupational Health

Additional training may be required based on the type of work performed. Please review the following to determine if you may need to complete any of this training.
Shipping Training (IATA)
The modules are designed to review the requirements for shipping hazardous materials, specifically biological materials including infectious substances, biological products and diagnostic specimens. Completion of this training involves submitting a quiz. The training certificate is valid for two years. If you will be using dry ice for shipping frozen non-hazardous items, you should also complete the online self-training and post-test found at: ehs.unc.edu/training/self-study/dry-ice. The training certificate is valid for two years.
