Michael Kappelman, MD, MPH
Professor of Pediatrics and an experienced trialist, Dr. Kappelman has expertise in recruitment science gained from conducting numerous successful trials, including one of the largest pediatric Crohn's trials in historyand from creating a patient-powered research network that uses electronic recruitment and data collection to study disease course through the eyes of patients and caregivers.

Anna enjoys assisting teams in the development of messaging and design strategies for clinical research studies. With experience in health communication and public relations, Anna not only views clinical research from a patient-focused perspective, but also with a marketing lens.
As the Research for Me project manager, she is also passionate about spreading the word about research at UNC throughout the state of North Carolina and beyond.
In her free time, Anna enjoys listening to podcasts and spending time with her dog, Sammy.

With over a decade of research experience, Summer's background in high-intensity clinical settings and in public health allows her to operationalize practical recruitment and retention strategies with both the investigator and research participant in mind.
Summer is committed to developing evidence-based, multi-modal recruitment plans rooted in creativity, inclusivity, and care. Her research interest and publications focus on patient experiences, communication, and research consent practices.
Summer lives in Durham and enjoys audiobooks, local coffee shops, and contemporary art.
