Collaborate with the Latine Community Review Board

Collaborate with the Inclusive Science Program's Latine Community Review Board (LCRB) to ensure that your study materials resonate authentically with North Carolina's Latine communities.

What is the LCRB?
ISP's Latine Community Review Board (LCRB) is an advisory group of natively Spanish-speaking, culturally diverse, Latino/a/e North Carolinians who collaborate with study teams to improve the linguistic accuracy and cultural relevance of study materials such as decision aids, scales, and recruitment scripts.

Why collaborate?

The LCRB can help to:

  • Ensure research study materials are accurately translated and culturally resonant with Latine communities
  • Enhance the relevance and impact of research studies
  • Engage and involve Latine communities early in the research process
  • Support higher rates of Latine enrollment, retention, and satisfaction
  • Support health equity research outcomes

What is the collaboration process?

The first step is to request a consultation with our Inclusive Science Program (ISP). During your consultation, a bilingual team member will discuss your goals and study materials so that we can prepare a proposed scope of work.

Once your study materials are ready for LCRB review, we can begin the collaboration process! Our bilingual ISP team will:

  1. Send a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that summarizes our collaboration.
  2. Plan a group review session with LCRB members. A signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is required before scheduling. Most group review sessions are scheduled 3 weeks in advance.
  3. Coordinate members' independent review of study materials in advance of the group session.
  4. Facilitate a live group review session in Spanish.
  5. Provide an English language report of LCRB members' key recommendations and suggested materials revisions. We aim to provide reports within 2 weeks of the group review session.

Later, when you prepare to publish your study, ISP will coordinate LCRB members' review of any draft manuscript/report associated with the study design, protocol, or materials that they helped to develop. We will provide you with members' feedback and suggested revisions.

What is the cost?

Cost varies according to the type and length of study materials to be reviewed, as well as the number of LCRB members who will collaborate on your study. The average cost is $2,000 and includes:

  • Bilingual coordination of materials review
  • Bilingual LCRB meeting facilitation
  • Report of LCRB recommendations
  • ISP and LCRB review of study-related publications
  • LCRB member compensation*

* ISP directly compensates collaborating LCRB members at the rate of $70.00/hour during business hours (M-F 8 am – 5pm) and $95/hour after business hours.
