How do we pay the LCRB members?
ISP directly issues all compensation to collaborating LCRB members at the rate of $70/hour during business hours (M-F 8am-5pm) and $95/hour after business hours. This rate is expected to increase annually in July.
Do we need to include the LCRB in our study IRB?
Study teams should describe community engagement activities, including the LCRB, in their IRB applications. Please see our guide to describing community engagement activities in your IRB application.
Is the LCRB review session a focus group?
No. The Latine CRB review session is not a focus group with study participants, but rather, a group discussion with our advisory board. These advisory board members are collaborators with your study team, not research participants. We use focus group techniques, along with other effective facilitation strategies, to lead the group discussion.
Could we record the session and obtain a recording of the LCRB discussion?
No. Per current LCRB protocol and member consensus, ISP does not share audio or video recordings from the Latine CRB group review sessions. Rather, our bilingual staff provide a summary report of group recommendations, along with any specific tracked revisions to your study materials that the Latine CRB may have recommended. (If you have a study team representative who is available at the time the review session takes place, that representative will be invited to attend for the purpose of responding in real time to any study-related questions that the CRB members might generate during their group discussion, but that study team member may not record.)
Is it possible for my study team to enlist new or existing external collaborators to take part in the study review session?
No, external collaborators cannot participate in the study review session(s). We only contract with our existing LCRB for these collaborations. However, you're welcome to invite study team members to attend and respond in real-time to any study-related questions that the LCRB members might discuss during their group discussion.
Does ISP brief the reviewers on the study before getting their feedback? If so, do we need to prepare anything for that?
Yes, ISP staff will "brief" the Latine CRB members before collecting their feedback. During this briefing, ISP will convey the following information to members: General study information (topic and study purpose); the goals of the review session; and any additional details that your study team wishes to communicate to the LCRB members before they review study materials. ISP will coordinate this process with you once we have received a signed MOU.
Will the tracked revisions be in Spanish?
If your study team wants to collect Spanish language tracked revisions of study materials, in addition to receiving the English summary of group discussion and reviewer comments, please provide ISP with the study materials intended for feedback collection in a format that facilitates tracking changes such as a Word doc. For example, if the study material for review is in video or website format, you can provide ISP with a Spanish language transcript of the video/website in a Word document to facilitate reviewer commentary and suggestions.
