UNC researchers Andrea Azcarate-Peril (Departments of Medicine and Nutrition; Director, Microbiome Core Facility) and Ian Carroll (Department of Nutrition) are launching the UNC Interdisciplinary Microbiome Research Program (IMeRP).

This center will provide an intellectual framework/home for the community of microbiome researchers across campus that are interested in harnessing the potential of host-associated and environmental microbiomes for the prevention and treatment of disease and a healthy planet.

The goals of IMeRP are to:

  1. Leverage existing connections between microbiome researchers to inform and guide the future of microbiome science at UNC
  2. Catalyze collaborative science at UNC
  3. Aid in attracting high profile microbiome researchers
  4. Enable the development of proposals to attract funding
  5. Increase visibility for microbiome research at UNC

As an initial step, IMeRP wants to identify microbiome researchers across campus and gauge interest in participating in IMeRP.
