UNC researchers launch Interdisciplinary Microbiome Research Program

UNC researchers Andrea Azcarate-Peril (Departments of Medicine and Nutrition; Director, Microbiome Core Facility) and Ian Carroll (Department of Nutrition) are launching the UNC Interdisciplinary Microbiome Research Program (IMeRP).
This center will provide an intellectual framework/home for the community of microbiome researchers across campus that are interested in harnessing the potential of host-associated and environmental microbiomes for the prevention and treatment of disease and a healthy planet.
The goals of IMeRP are to:
- Leverage existing connections between microbiome researchers to inform and guide the future of microbiome science at UNC
- Catalyze collaborative science at UNC
- Aid in attracting high profile microbiome researchers
- Enable the development of proposals to attract funding
- Increase visibility for microbiome research at UNC
As an initial step, IMeRP wants to identify microbiome researchers across campus and gauge interest in participating in IMeRP.
