Phanstiel and Loeser receive $2.5 Million NIH NIAMS grant for osteoarthritis research

Doug Phanstiel, PhD (PI) and Richard Loeser, MD (Co-PI), received a $2.5 Million NIH NIAMS Grant for Identifying novel osteoarthritis risk genes using GWAS, chondrocyte genomics, and genome editing.
The innovative research seeks to identify putative causal knee OA risk variants, map them to their target genes, and quantify their phenotypic impact in chondrocytes.
Brian Diekman, PhD and Karen Mohlke, PhD are co-investigators in this research project.
TraCS has previously supported the work of Phanstiel and Diekman with a $5-50K Pilot Award (September 2021) for Genomics and genome editing to establish new drug targets for osteoarthritis.
