AdvanTx: The UNC Advance Therapeutics Initiative

As part of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's commitment to fully maximizing the potential of early-stage research at the University, the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research (OVCR) has announced the launch of AdvanTx: The UNC Advance Therapeutics Initiative, a centralized resource to support development of therapeutic-related research and commercialization projects. The initiative aims to serve faculty in advancing therapeutic projects through scientific guidance, coordination of university and external resources, and development of a commercial strategy.

Projects or ideas that are deemed to have significant potential will also receive the following benefits:

  • Mentorship: Scientific support will be provided to develop a therapeutic target concept or project.
  • Translation: Support will be provided to access and coordinate resources and funding through UNC and external organizations
  • IP support: For programs at an appropriate stage of development, help will be provided to assess, protect, and commercialize intellectual property accordingly in collaboration with the Office of Technology Commercialization. Future IP considerations and strategies can be discussed for programs early in development.

Research investigators are highly encouraged to contribute their therapeutic target(s) or gene concepts, discoveries, or ongoing programs - independent of the stage of development - by completing a brief one-page questionnaire which can be accessed via the website.

After the project information is submitted, those with a high priority-rating will be promptly contacted by members of the AdvanTx team, a pan-campus group of therapeutics and innovation translation experts. If selected for support, the team will work closely with the researcher to support advancement of the therapeutic project.

Information on the initiative, along with submission instructions, can be found on the OVCR’s AdvanTX: UNC Advance Therapeutics Initiative portal.
