Stephen I. Katz Early Stage Investigator Research Project Grant

The NIH announced a new funding opportunity, the Stephen I. Katz Early Stage Investigator Research Project Grant (R01 Clinical Trial Not Allowed and R01 Basic Experimental Studies with Humans Required), which "supports an innovative project that represents a change in research direction for an early stage investigator (ESI) and for which no preliminary data exist." The award, which is named in honor of the late National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS) Director, Stephen I. Katz, MD, PhD, is "open to a broad range of scientific research relevant to the mission of the participating NIH Institutes and Centers." Mike Lauer, MD, discusses the new award in an Open Mike blog post. The first application due date is Jan. 26, 2021.
