Team Science

We assist investigators with identifying and bridging connections to collaborators; creating and maintaining effective interdisciplinary research teams that are working to develop proposals and programs; and training in team science best practices.

NC TraCS Team Science — What's in it for you and your team?

TraCS Team Science can facilitate the collaborative process by helping investigators connect with potential collaborators of relevant expertise and interest. We also assist new and existing teams by providing support for team assembly, team building and coordination, and ongoing team maintenance.
Primary services include:

Assistance with finding a collaborator

  • Based on requester-provided information, we will generate a shortlist of appropriate potential collaborators and facilitate initial contact

Pilot grant program: Advancing Collaborative Team Research (ACTeR)

  • This competitive pilot grant provides monetary and logistical support to nascent teams, to enable them to build and maintain a team and generate the preliminary data necessary to compete for external funding
  • Two-phased support comprises monetary support for Phase 1 team-building activities, Phase 2 preliminary data generation, logistical support from a Team Support Manager over both phases, and Proposal Manager support for Phase 2 grant application preparation

Assistance with team development and management

  • Our Team Accelerator Program (TAP) provides support and resources for multidisciplinary research teams throughout their development—as they progress from 'forming' (meeting around an idea) to 'performing' (developing and submitting a final scientific product such as a large, multidisciplinary grant application)
  • We provide Team Support Manager support for team activities and Proposal Development support for grant application preparation

Information on relevant institutional resources

  • Planning for, building, managing, and leading teams
  • Leading and facilitating effective team processes
  • Training
