Qualitative Research Service
The NC TraCS Qualitative Research Service (QRS) offers a variety of services to support faculty, staff, students, and community partners conducting qualitative research projects.
Initial consultations are provided at no cost. Additional support is charged at an hourly rate (listed at tracs.unc.edu/rates). To request services, submit a request at tracs.unc.edu/request. Select "Qualitative Research Service" as the requested TraCS program.
Spanish language qualitative research services are provided in collaboration with the Inclusive Science Program.
Consultations
Our experts are available for consultations on any aspect of your qualitative research study. Meet with us to:
- Refine research questions or study design
- Discuss approaches to developing interview or focus group guides
- Troubleshoot data collection issues
- Obtain feedback on qualitative analysis approaches
- Learn about transcription and translation resources
- Obtain guidance on developing a qualitative research budget
Mock Interview or Focus Group
We provide an opportunity to practice and obtain feedback on your interviewing or facilitation skills. Using your study's guide, we will observe a mock session in English or Spanish, facilitate a debrief discussion, and provide feedback.
Material Review
Our team is available to review and provide feedback and suggested edits on Spanish or English language interview or focus group guides, qualitative manuscripts, or qualitative research grant proposals.
Qualitative Research Study Support & Mentorship
Our experts can provide technical support to studies conducting qualitative research in English and Spanish. We prioritize working with teams who are interested in building their capacity to conduct qualitative research, meaning we engage in qualitative research activities alongside the study team, while providing training and mentorship.
We collaborate with teams to support a variety of qualitative research activities, including:
- Developing protocols and guides
- Conducting interviews and focus groups
- Analyzing data (content/thematic analysis or rapid assessment)
- Reporting findings
UNC Qualitative Research Network
The UNC Qualitative Research Network listserv is a forum for resource and information sharing, as well as a space to seek connections, support, and feedback from others engaging in qualitative research at UNC-Chapel Hill. The listserv is available to faculty, staff, and students at UNC-Chapel Hill and UNC Health and is managed by NC TraCS and the Odum Institute.
