Wake Forest CTSI hosts Mucosal Immunology Symposium

The Wake Forest Clinical and Translational Science Institute is sponsoring a symposium on October 11th, 2017 entitled: Mucosal Immunology Research using the Nonhuman Primate Model.

The event will take place at Wake Forest Biotech Place, a new facility in downtown Winston-Salem. The practicum comprises of nine presentations, each devoted to a separate topic related to the use of monkeys in translational research (see below). Please circulate to potentially interested scientists, laboratory personnel, and administrators at your institution.

Important Points:

1. The practicum is being offered both as a webinar and in-person. Registration is required for access to the webinar as well as for attending the presentation in person. Registration is free and includes lunch on the day of the symposium.

2. The Wake Forest CTSI is hosting tours of its primate facilities on request. There is a place on the registration form allowing registrants to indicate their interest in joining a tour.

3. Registration closes September 30th.

4. Rooms are available at the Kimpton Cardinal Hotel for those wishing to attend in person ($169/night).

The agenda for the practicum includes the following topic areas:

  • Neonatal vaccine strategies
  • Intranasal vaccine strategies
  • Vaccine responses
  • Emerging understanding of immune cells associated within the intestinal mucosa
  • Diet, HIV, aging and intestinal microbiome interactions
  • Mechanisms relating to urinary tract infections
