Dr. Erin Malloy to be Director of the Center for Faculty Excellence

The Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Erin Malloy to be the fourth Director of the Center for Faculty Excellence.

Malloy succeeds Professor Eric Muller, who has returned full-time to the School of Law. Muller will be conducting an important research project on the War Relocation Authority, the U.S. agency responsible for the internment of Japanese citizens during World War II.

Dr. Malloy is a Professor in the Departments of Psychiatry and Social Medicine with extensive leadership experience in the clinical and educational arenas. She served as the medical director for the Child Inpatient Unit in Psychiatry and as program director for the Adolescent Inpatient Service for over a decade. She is Director of Medical Student Education and Clerkship Director for the Department of Psychiatry and has taught and led several courses at the UNC School of Medicine (SOM) including its Professional Development course in the school's new TEC Curriculum. She has been extensively involved in the medical school’s Larry Keith Advisory Colleges program since its inception in 2008.

Malloy has been honored by several teaching awards, most recently the Hyman L. Battle Award for Excellence in Teaching in the Clinical Sciences in 2015. She has also been recognized for excellence in course development for the Psychiatry Clerkship with the Best Clinical Clerkship Award in 2014 and received the Leonard B. Tow Humanism in Medicine Faculty Award in both 2012 and 2013. Malloy’s national involvement includes presentations and roles in the Association of Directors of Medical Student Education in Psychiatry (ADMSEP) and the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

The CFE supports faculty from the entire University across the full spectrum of their professional responsibilities, including teaching, leadership, scholarship and research, and mentoring. The CFE seeks to:
