Data Science Day scheduled for September 24

The School of Data and Information Science (SDIS) is excited to announce the fourth annual Data Science Day on September 24, 2026 at the Carolina Club.

This event is open to any student, faculty or staff at Carolina. It will be a day to celebrate Emerging Directions in Data Science research and meet new collaborators.

Speakers include chief AI officer Saif Khairat and CNN's Kendell Timmers.

Short Talks

The North Carolina higher education research community is invited to share work that reflects new trajectories in data‑driven research and innovation. Submissions are being accepted for the short talk sessions from faculty, staff researchers and research teams at any higher education institution in North Carolina.

Talks must be 10 minutes total, offering concise, high‑impact presentations that illuminate emerging approaches, novel applications, or forward‑looking perspectives.

These sessions will run from 10-11 a.m. and 2:15-3:30 p.m. at the Carolina Club.

Faculty and staff researchers can submit a short talk proposal for the event by 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2026. You will be notified by Sept. 12 if you've been selected.

Poster Session

This year's poster session will showcase projects that explore new frontiers in data science, from methodological advances to interdisciplinary applications.

Presenters will have the opportunity to share their work, connect with colleagues, and highlight how emerging directions are shaping their research.

Postdocs and graduate students can submit a poster abstract by 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026. You will be notified by Sept. 12 if you have been selected.
