TraCS welcomes new Community and Patient Advisory Board members

new CPAB members for 2023-2024

TraCS is excited to announce the addition of five new members to the Equity in Research Community and Patient Advisory Board (CPAB).

The NC TraCS CPAB promotes and supports equity in research at UNC-Chapel Hill through community engagement, inclusive science, and diverse recruitment. It helps create and strengthen bidirectional, trustworthy connections between researchers at UNC-Chapel Hill and diverse North Carolina communities, networks, and organizations.

Through ongoing engagement with NC TraCS, the CPAB guides efforts to better understand and address the structural, historical, and practical obstacles that prevent underrepresented communities from fully participating in health-related research.

New members are:

Layla Bonilla, a trans nonbinary person who is a community organizer with a focus on food equity and education. They work closely with individuals with a variety of chronic illnesses.

Cheslie Johnson, a patient advocate/advisor helping researchers understand the benefits of patient centered engagement within research.

Rev. William (Bill) Kearney, a partner in several community-engaged research projects and consultant with universities, organizations, and partnerships across the United States. He is also a research associate and community outreach manager at UNC Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention.

Parvathy Krishnan, a nutrition support dietitian who helps empower others through advocacy and patient-family engagement. She is a subject matter expert on patient and family centered care, surgical oncology family experiences, palliative/complex care, and nano rare clinical trial patient experiences.

Yvonne LaRoche-Pardo, a Health Equity Research Coordinator at Novant Health focused on health education and health issues in serving diverse populations, including immigrants and refugee families.
