CRSO's Bloom platform chosen as finalist in WCG Innovation Challenge

Bloom, an online platform developed to guide study teams through the study initiation process, has been selected as a finalist in the WCG Innovation Challenge—and will be presented at the WCG MAGI East 2023 Clinical Research Conference on May 24, 2023.

Entries were evaluated on novelty, resources to execute, ability to move from ideation to production, and the overall impact on an outcome of efficiency, performance, or quality. Interactions at the conference often inspire attendees to go home and incorporate new ideas into their own policies and procedures.

About Bloom

CRSO Bloom logo

The Bloom Process Mapping Tool was developed by the UNC School of Medicine's Clinical Research Support Office (CRSO) and the NC TraCS Institute to assist research teams in understanding and navigating the steps required to initiate clinical research studies.

Bloom is designed to construct a customized process map for studies based on answers to questions about study characteristics. Bloom shows users which activities need to be completed prior to others and which activities can be completed simultaneously to minimize any wasted time during the study initiation process. Bloom allows you to see tasks, track progress, and find information about steps in the study initiation process.

Finalists will have exactly 5 minutes to present their solution live during the event, followed by a 5-minute Q&A session with the Steering Committee. After the presentations, the audience will vote on a winner. An article about each finalist will also be featured in CenterWatch Weekly.

The UNC School of Medicine's CRSO provides navigation, tools, and training to support the conduct of clinical research studies in which UNC serves as an investigative site. The CRSO serves as an advocate for the SOM clinical research community, with focus on supporting the workforce, identifying best practices and standardizing processes, and developing tools and resources to support essential activities.

The North Carolina Translational and Clinical Sciences (NC TraCS) Institute is a grant-funded institute founded as a service to the research community—guiding you through clinical trials and regulatory approval, all the way to implementation in patient care. We do this by being a catalytic partner that educates, funds, connects, and supports researchers at UNC-Chapel Hill and across the U.S.
