HPDP announces CDC RFA for Special Interest Projects through UNC-Chapel Hill

Each year, the UNC Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention (HPDP) has the opportunity to submit proposals to CDC in response to the RFA for "Special Interest Projects" or SIPs.

HPDP is one of 26 Prevention Research Centers (PRCs) eligible to participate in this program—and all SIP proposals must be submitted through their institution's PRC. One SIP opportunity is available this year (detailed description begins on page 42 of the RFA). View the full announcement for RFA-DP-23-004 at grants.gov.

SIP 23-001: Effective Community Conversations for Influenza and COVID-19 Vaccine Uptake
This SIP seeks to obtain unique, in-depth insights on what makes community-level vaccine conversations effective. These insights can be used to help federal, state, and local entities develop effective programs for future community-level vaccine messengers, with the aim of increasing adult vaccination uptake. It is anticipated that approximately $500,000-$1,500,000 is available to fund 1-3 Prevention Research Centers for a 1-year project period. The year one ceiling per recipient is $500,000, and includes direct and indirect costs.

NOTE: Only one SIP application per institution is allowed. If there is interest from multiple PIs, HPDP will coordinate efforts or if necessary, request brief applications for consideration by blinded internal reviewers to decide which proposal moves forward.
