2022 NC Women's Health Report Card released by CWHR

In honor of National Women's Health Week, the UNC Center for Women's Health Research (CWHR) has released the 2022 North Carolina Women's Health Report Card, an overview the health and health care needs of our state's 5+ million women.

The UNC Center for Women's Health Research (CWHR) released the 2022 North Carolina Women's Health Report Card, an overview the health and health care needs of our state's 5+ million women, on Monday, May 9, to coincide with National Women’s Health Week. This edition shares promising trends in the area of preventative measures for North Carolina's women while also demonstrating a need to address challenges in the areas of racial disparities, obesity rates, and issues facing an overall aging population.

The data found within the report card—the only health report of its kind in the state—is intended to spotlight where we are succeeding and where we still have work to do in women's health. This progress report is released biennially by CWHR to help guide our areas of research, and with hopes that this information will be utilized by the Legislature, media, fellow researchers, community organizations, and general public to guide their own decision-making processes.

"There are numerous conditions and diseases that affect women differently from men," said Dr. Wendy Brewster, CWHR Director. "It is important that we target our resources wisely in these gap areas to preserve the health of our entire community."

Women currently outnumber men in our state and that trend is expected to continue through at least 2030. The mental, physical, and the social health of North Carolina’s women has sweeping implications. Legislative decisions, our economy, and social welfare depend on appropriate responses to the challenges women in NC face.
