School of Medicine hosts 9th Annual Oliver Smithies Symposium

The School of Medicine and the Oliver Smithies Symposium Postdoctoral Organizing Committee at UNC-Chapel Hill invites you to the 9th Annual Oliver Smithies Nobel Laureate Symposium to be held virtually on Friday, September 11, 2020.

This annual symposium hosts a Nobel Laureate to talk about his or her life experiences and work that led to their success. This year's speaker is Dr. William Moerner, recipient of the 2014 Nobel Prize in Chemistry.

The two main events will be:

  • 1:00pm — panel discussion: "Being an Effective Expert When Expertise is Refused"
  • 3:30pm — keynote lecture: Dr. Moerner will present "The Story of Light and Single Molecules: From Early FM Spectroscopy in Solids, to Super-Resolution Nanoscopy in Cells and Beyond"

Meet & Greet

Up to 20 UNC postdocs will have an opportunity to participate in a meet-and-greet with Dr. William Moerner from 2:45 pm - 3:15 pm. Separate registration required.
