Share your perspective on disability inclusion in research

People with disabilities (PWD) are underrepresented in biomedical and behavioral research—despite their poorer health vs their non-disabled peers. In fact, the NIH has designated people with disabilities as a population with health disparities.

The Disability as Diversity: Reducing Researcher Roadblocks (D2/R3) study at Einstein-Montefiore's ICTR is assessing researcher-level perceived barriers and capacity to conduct disability inclusive research.

D2/R3 aims to increase the level of such research: just 4% of all NIH research grants from 2018-2022 were disability related R01s (n=9,841a/n=248,454b).

D2/R3 is recruiting investigators and other research staff to take a brief one-time survey. Findings will be used to develop an educational intervention.

What:

  • Take a one-time online survey (approx. 10-15 minutes)
  • Choose to receive a gift incentive- OR- donate the equivalent amount to a non-profit

Eligibility:

  • Investigators, trainees, study staff, etc.- engaged in biomedical or behavioral research:
    • Alzheimer's/Dementia
    • Asthma
    • Diabetes
    • Epilepsy
    • Gastro-Intestinal
    • Heart Disease
    • Mental Health/Psychiatric
    • Obesity
  • Research is focused primarily in adult (i.e. non-pediatric) populations
  • Research is not disability specific (i.e., your work does not focus on disability)
