Vielot awarded diversity supplement to study herpes zoster vaccine among older adults

Nadja Vielot, PhD, assistant professor of Family Medicine, was recently awarded a diversity supplement to the NC TraCS Institute 's CTSA award (sponsored by the NIH National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences) to conduct a study of the effectiveness of the recombinant herpes zoster vaccine among older adults using health care utilization data.

The award provides two years of salary and research support. The findings from this study will better inform Centers for Disease Control recommendations for herpes zoster vaccination with respect to long-term effectiveness and effectiveness among adults with immunocompromising conditions.

Dr. Vielot will collaborate with colleagues at the Gillings School of Public Health (Epidemiology and Biostatistics) and the School of Medicine (Infectious Diseases) to complete this research.
