Finding Strategies for Professional Growth in Translational Science

Please join the ACTS Professional Development Committee for a session that offers attendees the chance to contribute to the future of professional development at ACTS, and gives them a forum to develop strategies to further their own career growth.

A major challenge to professional development is finding time and justification for it within the context of busy workplaces already stretched thin trying to meet organizational priorities. For staff having to explain the value of professional development in these contexts, and for leaders needing to focus on meeting organizational objectives, this can be a struggle. However, this can also be an opportunity to find a mutually beneficial approach that uses constructive conversations and strategic thinking to promote professional development opportunities that align with organizational priorities and value the professional growth of staff and leaders.

This workshop is guided by the results of this year's member survey on professional development. Attendees will gain exclusive insight about the committee's findings from the survey, as well as their plans for the future of educational offerings from ACTS. Attendees will also participate in small group discussions about their experiences with professional development, sharing first hand experiences of successes and challenges throughout their careers in order to find new strategies for pursuing their professional goals.

The goal of this workshop is twofold: give participants an opportunity to share experiences and space to create new strategies for achieving professional growth, and allow CTSA staff and leaders to learn about and further shape the future of professional development offerings from ACTS.

Sign-up is free for ACTS members. UNC-Chapel Hill has an institutional membership to ACTS that UNC-Chapel Hill faculty and staff can join. Non-members must pay a $15 fee to attend, reduced to $10 for early career investigators.
