This special call seeks to support translational research in addressing the COVID-19 epidemic. NC TraCS contribution is limited to $25K. Proposals with additional funds may have larger budgets and their scope may enhance reviewer enthusiasm.

Priority will be given to projects that can lead to larger scale research with external funding, particularly those with promise to rapidly lead to SARS-2/COVID-19 prevention, diagnosis, treatment, cure or critical steps to enabling translation to those aims. Proposals should leverage existing strengths of UNC's work to respond to the pandemic.

COVID-19 Research Funding

This special call seeks to support translational research in addressing the COVID-19 epidemic.

NC TraCS contribution is limited to $25K. Proposals with additional funds may have larger budgets and their scope may enhance reviewer enthusiasm.

Priority will be given to projects that can lead to larger scale research with external funding, particularly those with promise to rapidly lead to SARS-2/COVID-19 prevention, diagnosis, treatment, cure or critical steps to enabling translation to those aims. Proposals should leverage existing strengths of UNC's work to respond to the pandemic.

RTI International has committed funds to match up to two proposals. A letter of intent is required for RTI investigators. Contact Dr. Lisa Gehtland (This email address is being protected from spambots. Investigators whose appointments allow them to serve as PI on externally sponsored research projects are eligible to apply. This generally means permanent faculty (not adjunct appointments) and includes those with non-faculty appointments from research institutes and centers who are eligible to apply for investigator-initiated awards and R01-level funding.

We strongly encourage submission of a brief (half-page) letter of intent specifically addressing these special evaluation criteria by April 15th.
