Our Inclusive Science Program (ISP) promotes the meaningful inclusion of scientific leaders and study participants from communities and global majorities that have been historically excluded and harmed by dominant institutions in medicine and science.
Our consultations and advisory services can inform all phases of translational science and health research, from conceptualization to analysis and dissemination, to ensure that projects contribute to health equity among communities who are: Black and Indigenous; children and adolescents; Disabled, including blind, d/Deaf and hard of hearing, and/or neurodivergent; Hispanic and Latino/a/x/e; LGBTQIA and gender diverse; migrants and refugees; and older adults.
Our advisory services include:
ISP faculty and staff are available to consult on a variety of topics related the inclusion of diverse populations in all phases of research. Examples include: The benefits and risks of research participation, ranging from biomedical ethics to social impact; common barriers to study participation; inclusive data collection methods and analytic techniques; culturally appropriate instruments and measures, recruitment materials and communication strategies; and options for enhancing multilingual engagement. Request a one-on-one consultation with a member of the ISP team.
In collaboration with the NC TraCS CaSE Program, ISP offers a variety of ongoing advisory and support services to study teams, including services related to multilingual research engagement methods.
Study support services are billable and outlined in our Engaged Research Services list (pdf). Study teams are charged at a rate of $68/hour during business hours (M-F 8am-5pm) and $92/hour after business hours. Before billable work can begin, NC TraCS requires a Memorandum of Understanding that outlines a predetermined scope of work, timeline, and invoicing details.
- Latino/a/e/x Community Review Board (CRB)
We can help study teams improve the linguistic accuracy and cultural relevancy of their Spanish language study materials such as flyers, survey instruments, and reports. Once study teams have translated their materials to Spanish, ISP facilitates a review of the materials by a panel of local Spanish-speaking, Latinx community members. ISP then provides study teams with a summary report of the CRB process and a document of suggested revisions, if applicable. Please review the Engaged Research Services list (pdf) for an outline of costs.
- Qualitative Research Services
In collaboration with the CaSE Program, ISP offers a variety of qualitative research support services in both English and Spanish.
