Each year, the UNC Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention (HPDP) has the opportunity to submit proposals to CDC in response to the RFA for “Special Interest Projects” or SIPs. HPDP is one of 20 Prevention Research Centers (PRCs), in the 2024-2029 funding cycle, eligible to participate in this program. The full announcement for RFA‐DP‐24‐062 can be accessed at Grants.gov.

There are 13 SIP opportunities:

  • SIP 24-002: Survivorship care plans and mortality among adult cancer survivors
  • SIP 24-003 Cancer Prevention and Control Research Network (CPCRN)
  • SIP 24-004: Gauging men’s reaction to relabeling of GG1 prostate cancer and understanding of pathology reports
  • SIP 24-005: Understanding the impact of reducing social isolation and loneliness on health indices among cancer survivors
  • SIP 24-006: Nutrition Obesity Policy Research and Evaluation Network (NOPREN)
  • SIP 24-007 Physical Activity Policy and Research Evaluation Network (PAPREN): Policy implementation research to advance health equity
  • SIP 24-008 Managing Epilepsy Well (MEW) Network
  • SIP 24-009 Arthritis Management and Wellbeing Research Network (AMWRN)
  • SIP 24-010 Mental Health and Chronic Disease Prevention Network (MHCDPN)
  • SIP 24-011: Assessment of MMR immunization interventions for children in close-knit communities with longstanding vaccine hesitancy
  • SIP 24-012 Advancing Research in Immunization Services Network (ARISe)
  • SIP 24-013 Understanding the potential of schools in promoting non-mandated childhood vaccinations

If you are interested in submitting a proposal for one of these opportunities, please refer to the important dates below. Please note that only one application per SIP is allowable and SIP applications must be submitted with HPDP as the administering department. If there is interest from multiple PIs, HPDP will do their best to coordinate efforts or if necessary, request brief applications for consideration by blinded internal reviewers to decide which proposal moves forward.
