This online two-day (2/1 and 2/3) short course provides an introduction to developing multi-item scale measures and survey instruments. Examples include measures of various social and psychological variables that might be assessed in health, medicine, journalism, or other related research areas. After a brief theoretical introduction to topics such as defining a construct and types of validity, this talk will focus on applied issues such as what is the optimal scale development process and how (and when) can you deviate from that process.

Marcella Boynton, PhD will address practical issues around questionnaire design such as how to construct a “good” survey instrument that has a natural flow, minimizes participant burden, has appropriate response options and other common concerns in scale development and design. Boynton will focus on real-life examples to demonstrate the scale development process. She will also briefly discuss different quantitative scale validation methods.

Judging beyond the cover: Assesing the readability, understandability, and actionability in breast cancer survivorship print materials

Join us as Pearman Parker, MPH, RN presents the results from her K project where she investigated the perceptions of cancer educational materials among young women breast cancer survivors.

She will also discuss the results from an environmental scan of cancer educational materials for content and readability and present her next steps toward grant development and future collaborations.
