Clinical and Translational Research Services Print

The Participant and Clinical Interactions Resources Core (PCIR) seeks to establish, enhance and expand the facilities and processes available for the conduct of clinical protocols.

Clinical and Translational Research Center (CTRC)
The CTRC offers campus investigators access to 23 outpatient examination rooms open daily and 10 inpatient rooms available 24 hours, 7 days per week, staffed with a cadre of highly skilled research professionals. An investigators laboratory is available for processing and storage of research specimens. The bionutrition core provides consultations for nutrition studies, research diets, and body composition services. The General Oral Health Center (GO HEALTH), an eight-chair dental facility, is dedicated to examining the relationship between oral disease and systemic disorders. The clinic is equipped with a waiting room, dental units, including a closed surgical suite, radiographic equipment, and a specimen processing lab. The Greensboro Community Research Unit, located approximately 60 miles from Chapel Hill, provides an additional 4 outpatient examination rooms, investigator laboratory, and conference room that enable investigators to recruit and follow research subjects within the Greensboro community.
Recruitment of Investigators
One of the goals of the Core is to publicize the facilities available at the CTRC and work to introduce investigators to clinical and translational research. Principal Investigators from across campus may apply to use the CTRC facilities. Under the approval of the CTRC Oversight Board, investigator-initiated studies may be awarded the use of the CTRC facilities at a subsidized cost. Since the inception of the CTSA Award, 13 new investigators have submitted their first CTRC protocol. Currently, there are 365 approved protocols utilizing CTRC resources.
