About KickStart

Over the past five years, UNC has launched over 50 research innovation companies, mainly in the life sciences. These companies have collectively brought in over $15M in SBIR grants and over $50M in venture funding. KickStart Venture Services (formerly Carolina KickStart) has been involved in a majority of these companies by:

  • supporting company launch through coaching and mentoring,
  • providing over $1.2M in early-stage gap funding,
  • connecting these companies with key service providers, leadership, and investors, and
  • establishing on-campus incubation space.

We provide support for faculty in commercializing biomedical technologies through startup generation by:

  • Facilitating the development of startup companies at UNC-Chapel Hill
